Job Posting: Tzitzit Tyer

We are looking for a detail-oriented person who loves repetitive work with their hands, to tie tzitzit onto tallitot  (the fringes onto Jewish prayer shawls). Specific experience tying tzitzit is not required. Someone who likes working with their hands (knitting, crochet, tying friendship bracelets etc.), and who will find meaning participating in this Jewish ritual, will be the best fit for this kind of work.

This is a great part-time opportunity (8-10 hours per week) for someone who wants to work from their home with completely flexible hours. Must live in the Boston/Cambridge/Somerville surrounding areas. Pay is $20 per hour.

Responsibilities

  • Receive packages of tallitot from the sew shops we work with. Count incoming tallitot to ensure every item has been received.
  • Add tzitzit to all four corners of each tallit.
  • Package each tallit into their matching tallit bag.

Qualifications

  • Must have access to a clean, pet-free, scent-free area in your home to tie tzitzit and store the tallitot while you are working on them.
  • Careful attention to detail and pride in your work, knowing that each tallit can become an heirloom in a family for generations.
  • After a training period, the speed of tying tallitot should be 4-5 per hour.

There will be an initial paid training session where I will teach you the process, and you will tie tzitzit for 10 tallitot. After this training period, both of us can determine if this is a good fit, and if so move forward with a long term working arrangement.

There is a potential for increased responsibilities with the business in the future, including managing shipping and customer service inquiries. If this is interesting to you, please indicate this in your application.

To apply, please send an email to  sarah@advahdesigns.com sharing why you are interested in this position and any relevant experience. Thank you for your interest!
